Birmie’s Finest: PEACE

Peace are a harder, better, not so much faster but definitely stronger sound coming from Birmingham but I have come to love so much. The four piece call their sound “dark melodic indie techno”, and have nothing in their about section on Facebook but the words “music to f*** you in the heart”. And that definitely is pretty hardcore. Formed maybe a year or two ago, it seems they’ve only put four tracks out there on their Soundcloud page and it certainly feels like there should be more tracks. And that’s a good thing. Because it means that I like them.

Their most popular song “Follow Baby” is pretty dark with a “Smells Like Teen Spirit” kind of vibe about it. Matter of fact, so does their track “Li’l Echo“. Both of these tracks, while dark, are not too heavy. They certainly get you rocking, head-banging, but without making you slit your wrists and want to kill people. The vocals are undeniably of an indie style, making no effort to conceal that British accent, reminiscent of Luke’s vocals from The Kooks. But then, the instrumentals get you in the mood for life. “BBLOOD” has a more summery kind of instrumental feel with guitars that magnify the melody that they play, similar to some of the stuff from Foalsso if you like them then you’re almost guaranteed to like these guys.

The thing I love about this band is that everything seems so well written, so well played and all meshes together so well without an apparent need for very much post production, which leads me to believe that live, they will be kick ass based on the vibe that listening to their music with headphones manages. From their hard-core concert anthem that so greatly spells summer for me to their darker tracks that are completely different, they are dark, they are indie but they are definitely melodic, and melodic is important.

If this band don’t take the indie underworld by storm with all their tens of thousands of plays then I shall lose faith in humanity. Scratch that, if this band don’t get more recognition, I will lose faith in humanity, although that is not to undermine their current achievements like a massive tour and supporting the Vaccines as well as playing Latitude.
